IRVINE, Calif. - Bolstered by a pair of wins each by junior Promise Mose and sophomore Kylie Edwards, the San Diego State women's track and field team placed second at the UC Irvine Collegiate Invitational with a combined 126 points Saturday. The six-team meet was won by Northern Arizona, which combined for 150 points to hold off the Aztecs. UC Irvine placed third with 102 points followed by UC Santa Barbara (82), Cal State San Marcos (58) and Cal Poly Pomona (16).
Mose got the Aztecs of to a hot start, posting her fifth and sixth wins of the season by capturing both the 200 meters (24.21) and 400 meters (54.47). Edwards then followed suit with victories in the 800 meters (2:14.10) and 1500 meters (4:31.76). Her 1500-meter time was both seventh-fastest time ever run by an Aztec and a personal record.
SDSU also picked up victories in the 100-meter hurdles, 400-meter hurdles and 4 x 400 meter relay. Felicia Stone, who has already provisionally qualified for the 2000 NCAA Championships, took first in the 100-meter hurdles with a personal record 13.44 -- her third provisional mark of the season. Leslie Miller then road a pr in the 400-meter hurdles to victory, finishing in a time of 1:01.65.
Aztec pole vaulter Kristi Draher, a senior, rounded out the day for SDSU with a second place vault of 12-06.00 to provisionally qualify for nationals.
San Diego State returns to action on April 29-30 when the Aztecs travel to Berkeley, Calif., for the Cal-Nevada State Meet.
