Men's Tennis Advances To Conference Final

SAN DIEGO - AThe San Diego State men's tennis team advanced to the championship match of the Mountain West Conference Tournament on Friday with a 4-1 win over Brigham Young on the campus of the University of New Mexico.

"It was a very close match," said Aztecs head coach John Nelson. "I knew this would be a tough team to beat. BYU had the advantage of high-altitude experience. I am very proud of our team. It was a hard-fought match. Our doubles teams set the tone."

San Diego State, ranked 29th nationally, will meet the survivor of the UNLV-New Mexico match in Saturday's championship bout.

Individually for the Aztecs, Oliver Maiberger won his 21st consecutive match and Alex Waske, ranked 33rd nationally, was a three-set winner.

SDSU swept the doubles matches to clinch the victory.
