Box Score

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State softball team upset No. 16 Cal State Fullerton, 1-0, in game one but fell to the Titans, 3-2, in game two of a doubleheader at SDSU Field Sunday afternoon.

In game one, the Aztecs and Titans were knotted in a scoreless tie until the home-half of the sixth inning. Sarah Hershman opened the inning with an infield single. Christy Sears made contact with a sacrifice bunt to move Hershman to second. A wild pitch by the Titans' Gina Oaks allowed Hershman to take third base. Vanessa Valenzuela then hit her third single of the contest when she got a base-hit through the right side to bring home the game-winning run.

Aztec hurler Sandra Durazo scattered three hits in her 14th complete game of the year. It was also Durazo's fifth shut out of the season. Fullerton's Gina Oaks was almost equally impressive, as SDSU's batters only landed five hits.

In game two, the Titans would break the Aztecs' 24-inning scoreless streak in the third when Monica Lucatero singled to bring home Kristy Osborne and Yasmin Mossadeghi. In the bottom half of that inning, the Aztecs' Kellie Labor singled on a bunt and advanced home on an error by Titan pitcher Jodie Cox.

Fullerton earned what would be the game-winning run in the fourth when Brenda Iglesias singled to bring home Osborne for her second run of the game.

The Aztecs threatened to take the lead in the fifth when Hershman singled to bring home Labor. Pinch hitter Tiffany Goudy would ground out to shortstop to end the inning with two Aztecs left on base. San Diego State would strand five runners in the final three innings and eleven total in the game.

The Aztecs are now 22-20, 4-2 MWC, while Fullerton stands at 31-11, 6-3 Big West. San Diego State will face conference-leader New Mexico on Friday, April 14th, in a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. On Sunday, SDSU completes the home half of it's conference schedule with a doubleheader with Colorado State. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. PLEASE NOTE the CSU game time has been changed from the original schedule.
