San Diego - Texas Tech scored eight runs in the first three innings and went on to defeat San Diego State, 11-2, to complete a sweep of their three-game series with the Aztecs in Lubbock this weekend.
With the win, the Red Raiders improved to 12-8 on the season while San Diego State fell to the .500 mark at 11-11.
Sophomore Chris Dunwell (1-1) was a surprise starter on the mound, giving up seven of Tech's first eight runs before giving way to junior lefty Ben Julianel. The Red Raiders' Kevin Tracey (2-3) posted his second win of the year, going the distance while striking out nine.
Texas Tech pulled out to a 9-0 advantage before the Aztecs got on the board with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh. Andy Litteral and Jacob Minter picked up the RBI's, each coming on a fielder's choice. The Aztecs collected only seven hits on the day with no player recording more than one.
Up next for San Diego State is a single-game against 20th-ranked Loyola Marymount on Tuesday, March 7, at 6:00 p.m. at Tony Gwynn Stadium. The Aztecs open Mountain West Conference play with a three-game series against Utah beginning Friday night (Match 10) at 6:00 p.m. in San Diego.
