The San Diego State men's volleyball team earned its biggest win of the year by upsetting 15th-rank University of Pacific, 3-2, in a thrilling Mountain Pacific Sports Federation battle at Peterson Gym on Saturday night. The win gives SDSU a split in this year's meeting against the Tigers.
SDSU sealed its second consecutive victory, outlasting Pacific 15-13, 8-15, 15-11, 6-15 and 15-12. SDSU improves to 3-11 overall and 2-11 in MPSF action. Meanwhile, No. 15 Pacific falls to 7-11 and 6-8 in conference action.
Five Aztec starters finished the contest with double digits in kills. Leading the onslaught was senior outside hitter Mike Szymanski. Szymanski registered a team-high 21 kills on 45 attacks (.244) and notched four services. For the second straight time, Mike Koch recorded a double-double in kills and digs. The senior outside hitter from Jamul, Calif., collected 18 kills and 18 digs. Koch also helped SDSU's cause at the net, recording four total blocks.
Pacific's Vladimir Andric led the Tigers with a match-high 24 kills and 11 digs.
The Aztecs continue their four-match homestand against Lewis University on Wednesday, March 8. Match time is set at 7 p.m. at Peterson Gym.
