SAN DIEGO - The 11th-ranked San Diego State women's water polo team got past No. 7 UC Santa Barbara, 6-4, in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation action Friday at Bud Kearns Pool.
The Gauchos jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on goals by Holly Rodrigues and Mary Blumberg. Aztec Larisa Baltgalvis' single-handedly brought the her team back, scoring two consecutive goals, 2:22 apart, in the second quarter. UCSB's Erin Lezak and Baltgalvis exchanged scores, and the teams went into halftime knotted at three apiece. The second half would belong to SDSU, as the Aztecs outscored the Gauchos 3-1 on goals by Casey Finnegan, Amber Prestegard and Megan Dunbar.
San Diego State moves to 4-7, 1-1 MPSF on the year while UCSB falls to 5-10, 0-2. The Aztecs host third-ranked UCLA tomorrow at noon at Bud Kearns Pool.
