Aztecs' Crew Team Places Second In Three of Four Races

The 24th-ranked San Diego State women's crew team finished second in three of the four races it competed at this weekend on the Los Angeles harbor. All of the day's races were 2,000 meters in distance.

The Aztecs went up against fourth-ranked Southern California and Texas. The second place showings came in the varsity eight, novice eight and novice four. SDSU's varsity eight raced to a time of 6:50, just nine seconds behind USC.

In the day's closest race, the Aztecs' novice eight fell short of Texas by a little more than five seconds. The Longhorns outlasted SDSU with a time of 7:25.8, while the Aztecs posted a final time of 7:30.9. The team's final second place finish occurred in the novice four, where the Aztecs outpaced USC with a time of 8:16.0. Texas won its second event of the day, racing to a time of 8:10.0.

SDSU's lowest finish came in the junior varsity eight, the Aztecs placed third with a time of 7:13.2.

The Aztecs are back in action this weekend, when they compete at the San Diego Crew Classic in Mission Bay, Calif. Preliminary heats for both men's and women's squads will be held on Saturday. Final races will be held on Sunday. All races are expected to begin at 7 a.m. on each day.
