Cloudy skies and moist conditions did not effect the 24th-ranked California Golden Bears, as they shot a team score of 295 in the opening round of the EWGA/Lady Aztec Invitational. The two-day, 36-hole event is being held at the Willow Glen Course (Par 72, 6,207 yards) at the Singing Hills Country Club in El Cajon, CA.
The Golden Bears hold a three-stroke advantage over PAC-10 foe, Oregon. The 25th-ranked Ducks are in second place with a score of 298, followed closely by the University of San Francisco at 301. Tournament host, San Diego State is tied for 13th with three other schools after an opening round of 317.
Individually, Brigham Young's Carrie Summerhays shot the day's lowest score with a two-under-par 70. She heads into the final round with a two-stroke lead over USF's Emilie Arnaud and Kent
Heather Rollo is SDSU's lowest score with a three-over-par 75 and is tied with six others for 16th place.
The EWGA/Lady Aztec Invitational will conclude tomorrow with 18-holes. Tee times are set a 9:30 a.m.
