The 24th-ranked San Diego State women's crew team defeated Temple on Sunday at the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, Pa. Both of SDSU's varsity-eight squads finished ahead of Temple. The "A" squad won the race with a time of 6:37, followed by the "B" squad which finished at a time 6:47. Temple's lone varsity-eight finished with a time of 6:50.
On Saturday, SDSU fell to second-ranked Virginia in a dual meet held at the Rivanna Reservoir in Charlottesville, Virginia. Virginia's second varsity eight finished with a time of 6:47.9 to defeat the Aztecs who raced to a time of 6:57.3. In the first varsity-eight competition, Virginia had a time of 6:52.2 while SDSU finished with a time of 7:10.0
"It was a great experience for us," said head coach Scott Steckel. "I think it was important for us to go and race a top team early in the year. Virginia and Temple are just that."
Next up for the Aztecs is the Berg Cup held at San Pedro, Calif., on Saturday, March 25. SDSU is competing against No. 4 USC and the University of Texas.
