The San Diego State men's volleyball team is still in search of its first road win of 2000. The Aztecs dropped their eighth road match of the season to eighth-ranked Loyola Marymount, 3-0 (8-15, 9-15, 5-15), last night at the Gersten Pavilion in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match. The loss drops SDSU to 4-13 overall and 2-12 in MPSF action. The Aztecs had entered the contest winners of four of their last five matches. Loyola Marymount improves to 8-6 overall and 5-6 in conference action.
Despite outblocking LMU (12.5 - 11.0) and committing less service errors (19 - 21), SDSU was outhit by LMU, .445 to .261. The Lions had six players finish the evening with double-digit kills, including a match-high by Reid Priddy with 26 kills for a .432 attack percentage.
Senior Sean Mackin tallied a team-high 17 kills for the Aztecs, and collected three total blocks and digs. Senior outside hitter Mike Szymanski chipped-in with 12 kills.
The Aztecs return to action on Thursday, March 23, in quest of their first road win when they travel north to battle the Matadors of Cal State Northridge. Match time is set at 7 p.m.
SDSU is back at home for a two-match set against Hawaii. The Rainbows visit SDSU on Tuesday, March 28 and Wednesday, March 29. Both matches are 7 p.m. starts at Peterson Gym. On March 28, the first 100 fans in attendance will receive a free backpack or an Aztec volleyball t-shirt.
