San Diego -
The 24th-ranked San Diego State women's crew team spilt Sunday's dual meet against 26th-ranked North Carolina on the flat and calm water conditions at Mission Bay. The Aztecs fell to UNC by two seconds in the varsity-eight race, but were able to salvage the weekend with a win in novice-eight.
In the varsity-eight, SDSU's "B" squad raced to a time 6:40.9 for a second place finish, while the "A" squad placed fourth with a time of 6:50.6. North Carolina's time of 6:38.9 won the varsity event.
In the final event of the day, SDSU's novice team defeated UNC, racing to a time of 7:02.3.
"We're still rowing with a mixed lineup in the two varsity eights," said head coach Scott Steckel. "These are very fast times for all boats and we are only to get faster."
San Diego State travels to Charlottesville, VA., for a dual meet against No. 2 University of Virginia on Saturday, March 18.
