Yuma, Ariz. - After beating 23rd-ranked Oklahoma State 3-2 on Friday and 10-3 on Saturday, the San Diego State baseball team's bid for a three-game series sweep of the Cowboys fell short on Sunday at Desert Sun Stadium in Yuma, Ariz., as OSU handed the Aztecs a 14-8 defeat.
SDSU (5-3 overall) fell behind early, as starter Jeremy Cook gave up six runs in the second inning, with the big blow coming on a grand slam by the Cowboys' Toby Rhodes. OSU (1-2 overall) would not look back after Rhodes' blast, keeping the Aztecs at arm's length for the remainder of the game.
SDSU senior left fielder Paul Lockhart led the way for the Aztecs, going three-for-three with a run scored and two runs batted in. Junior shortstop Edgar Gonzalez provided a spark off the bech for SDSU, going two-for-three with a triple and a run scored.
The Aztecs travel to New Orleans for a three-game set with Tulane next weekend.
