SAN DIEGO - Jose Lima's solo homer in the eighth inning broke a 3-3 tie, and the University of San Diego added two more in the ninth to defeat San Diego State, 6-3, in action at the ARCO Collegiate Baseball Invitational at Tony Gwynn Stadium Saturday.
The Toreros improved to 9-5-1 on the season while the loss evened SDSU's season mark at 7-7.
USD jumped out to a 3-0 lead after three innings, but the Aztecs came back with single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth to tie the score. Among those runs was Brandon Rogers' third home run of the season in the fifth.
Torero pitchers Jared Hemus and Ricky Barrett limited the Aztecs to five hits on the night, with no SDSU player getting more than one, Barrett recorded the victory to improve to 2-1.
Freshman Chris Hartshorn started for San Diego State, going 6.1 innings before giving way to another freshman, Royce Ring. Ring was cruising until Lima's one-out homer in the eighth.
The Aztecs conclude play in the ARCO Invitational on Sunday, 20, when they take on CETYS University of Mexico at 2:00 p.m. at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
