SAN DIEGO - San Diego State pitchers limited Indiana to three hits and cashed in on a pair of Hoosier miscues to record a 5-2 victory on Friday at Tony Gwynn Stadium
The Aztecs improved to 7-6 on the season while Indiana lost its first game after winning its first two contests.
Senoior Jeremy Cook picked up his first win of the season, going five innings and allowing two runs on a pair of hits while striking out eight. Junior John Skinner threw three innings of scoreless relief and freshman closer Rory Shortell pitched the final frame to pick up his second save of the year.
Catcher Ben Rosenthal staked SDSU to a 1-0 lead with a solo home run, his first as an Aztec, in the second inning. In the third, San Diego State struck for three runs on four hits. A pair of Indiana errors also figured into the scoring.
The Aztecs continue play in the 2000 ARCO College Baseball Invitational when they host crosstown rival University of San Diego at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 19th at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
