Aztecs Down Buckeyes in Campbell-Cartier Opener

Poway, CA - The San Diego State women's softball team rode the three-hit pitching of junior Sandra Durazo and a 12-hit attack to defeat Ohio State 6-1 on the opening day of the Campbell-Cartier Tournament at Sportsplex USA in Poway, Calif.

The Aztecs (3-7) were clinging to a 2-1 lead before tallying two runs in the top of both the sixth and seventh innings to seal the win over the Buckeyes (3-3). Sophomore second baseman Sarah Hershman, a Mt. Carmel High School product, hit her first home run of the year to lead off the SDSU sixth.

Durazo allowed just three hits and one walk while striking out five Buckeyes. The lone Ohio State run was unearned. Sophomore centerfielder Kellie Nordhagen and soph third baseman Summer Ehrsam paced SDSU batters with three hits apiece.

The Aztecs face Sacramento State at 3:30 p.m. and University of Pacific at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The eight-team tourney concludes on Saturday and Sunday.
