The host San Diego State Aztecs lost 5-3 to the 22nd-ranked Illinois-Chicago Flames in the first game of the SDSU Tournament. The Aztecs dropped to 0-3 on the year, while UIC improved to 3-0.
Illinois-Chicago jumped to a 4-0 lead after two innings, but the Aztecs battled back in the third. Tami Simpson came across home plate after Flame pitcher Samantha Iuli walked Kristina Kirk with the bases loaded. Alicia Ortman singled on the next at bat, bringing home Kellie Nordhagen and Kellie Labor.
The Aztecs could not do further damage, however, as Iuli was near perfect the remainder of the game as 14 of the Aztecs' final 16 batter either struck out or were thrown out. Catcher Alicia Ortman led the Aztecs with 2 RBI.
