SAN DIEGO - San Diego State rallied for five runs in the eighth innings to overcome a one-run deficit and defeat Hawaii-Hilo, 7-3, at Hilo Friday evening. The win evened the Aztecs' record at 1-1 while the Vulcans fell to 5-4 on the season.
Consecutive hits by Andy Litteral, Chad Chop, Matt Ricardy and Ben Rosenthal scored four runs for SDSU in the top of the eighth. The fifth came in on a sacrifice fly by freshman Rory Shortell.
Rosenjthal, Paul Lockhart and freshman Garrett Cook each contributed a pair of hits for the Aztecs with Rosenthal's double in the eighth accounting for his two RBI's.
Freshman pitcher Chris Hartshorn made his Aztec debut, going five innings and giving up a pair of runs. He struck out seven in his first collegiate appearance. Freshman Don Tolen picked up the win in relief.
The series continues on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Wong Field in Hilo.
