SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State men's tennis team came up short against 47th-ranked Brigham Young in a Mountain West Conference match at SDSU today. The Aztecs are now 0-2, while the Cougars in the MWC clinch their first win for the season. The Aztecs are now 0-2, 0-1, and BYU is 1-0, 1-0 in conference.
The Cougars took the doubles point defeating each of the Aztec doubles teams. SDSU's Oliver Maiberger and Adam Webster played in the No. 1 doubles position losing a close match to BYU's Damien Ward and Gert Vilms, 8-6. Aztecs Travis Hasson and Dan Castro played in the No. 2 doubles spot losing to Nic Losee and Carlos Lozano, 8-5. Playing for BYU, David White and Anton Rudjuk dropped Sean Walker and Blair O'Hara, 8-3 in the No. 3 doubles position.
In singles, both teams took three of the six matches. Maiberger led the Aztecs in singles by defeating Vilms in the No. 2 spot, 6-7, 6-4, 6-2. Hasson defeated Lozano in the No. 3 spot, 6-3, 6-2 with the last SDSU win in the No. 5 position by Castro's defeat over White, 7-5, 7-6 (8-6).
The Aztecs will return to the SDSU courts on Sunday 1:30 p.m. for a match against University of Pacific.
