SAN DIEGO (AP) - Myron Epps scored 13 of his 18 points in the second half Thursday night to lead San Diego State to a 70-63 victory over Loyola Marymount, extending the Lions' losing streak to nine games.
The Aztecs (4-6), playing under first-year coach Steve Fisher, equaled their victory total from last season when they finished 4-22, their second-lowest win total in school history.
Loyola Marymount (1-9) hasn't won since its season-opener. The Lions also lost their 11th straight road game.
Leading 28-24 at halftime, San Diego State pulled away in the first 6 1/2 minutes of the second half. Epps scored inside on three straight possessions and added a free throw, and when David Abramowitz stole the ball and scored on a layup, the Aztecs were on top 44-30 with 13:23 remaining.
However, behind Rupert McClendon and Pablo Machado, Loyola stayed in the game. McClendon scored 14 of his 21 points in the second half, including a basket with 1:12 left that cut San Diego State's lead to 65-61.
The Aztecs iced the game by making 5-of-6 free throws in the final 34 seconds.
Machado finished with 20 points, 13 in the second half, on 7-for-8 shooting. Machado also had seven rebounds and four blocked shots.
Epps was 7-for-12 from the floor and had eight rebounds. Bradley Jackson added 11 points and eight assists for the Aztecs.
