Dec. 1, 1999

SAN FRANCISCO - San Diego State senior Mary Apiafi had 16 points and junior Anita Bundage tied a career-high with 14 rebounds in a 67-58 loss at the University of San Francisco Wednesday night. SDSU's record now stands at 1-4. USF improved to 2-3 with the victory.

The Aztecs, who have struggled early in games all season, got off to a fast start, jumping out to a 14-2 lead during the first five minutes of the game. Sophomore Atim Otii got SDSU rolling early, scoring six of her 11 points during the run.

San Diego State, however, was unable to sustain the momentum, as the Lady Dons used a late first half surge to knot things up at 29-29 at the break.

USF led the entire second half but was unable to take control of the game down until the final five minutes. A Jennifer Madkins jumper with 5:19 to play put the Lady Dons up by eight before Krista Knapp, who finished with a team-high 15 points, nailed a three pointer to give USF its largest lead of the game, 61-50, with 4:22 remaining.

The Aztec closed to within eight points three times in the final two minutes, but could draw no closer. Freshman Jamey Cox was also in double figures for the Aztecs with 11 points. Shannon Lee, the Mountain West Conference's assist leader, had four.

San Diego State will try to snap its two-game losing streak Saturday, Dec. 4 when the Aztecs host USC at Cox Arena. Tip off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
