LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - Billy Keys scored 11 points despite a sore throat and Aaron Brodt added 10 to lead New Mexico State University to a 66-49 victory over San Diego State University on Tuesday night.
The victory gave New Mexico coach Lou Henson his 706 career win and his fourth win against rival San Diego State coach Steve Fisher.
Fisher, in his first year as the Aztecs' coach, leads the rivalry 12-4.
Fisher and Henson battled it out during their years coaching in the Midwest. Fisher coached Michigan to one national championship and was 184-82 in just more than eight seasons. Henson coached 21 seasons at Illinois, leading the Illini to the NCAA tournament 12 times.
Tuesday's game was the first time the coaches had faced off in Las Cruces.
San Diego State (1-1) jumped out to an early 18-13 lead, but the Aggies battled back with a 12-0 run late in the first half. The Aggies kept the lead for the rest of the game.
Brad Bestor, making his first start for New Mexico State (2-1), scored nine points, including two 3-pointers.
Teammate Stephan Green came off the bench to add eight points and eight rebounds.
