Men's Soccer Falls At Berkeley

SAN DIEGO - A pair of late goals propelled the California Golden Bears to a 2-0 win over San Diego State in a match played on Wednesday, November 3 in Berkeley.

The loss, SDSU?s seventh straight, dropped the Aztecs? record to 4-14 overall and 0-7 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. Cal improved to 12-4-2 (3-3-1 MPSF) on the season.

After a scoreless first half, the Golden Bears broke through in the 75th minute when Jason Thorpe hit a shot from 30-yards out past Aztec goalkeeper Adam Dietz. 10 minute later, midfielder Ramiro Arredondo added an insurance goal with a chip shot from 15 yards on the right side.

San Diego State was credited with only two shots in the game, both by captain Milton Economy in the first half. Cal had a total of 15 shots, forcing Dietz to make eight saves on the day.

The Aztecs conclude their 1999 season when they travel up the freeway to face UC Irvine on Sunday, November 7th at 2:00 p.m.
