San Diego State men's basketball won its season opener with a 73-57 win over UC Riverside on Nov. 24. San Diego State shot 50 percent (29-of-58) from the field and out-rebounded UC Riverside 43-28 in the win.
The Aztecs were led by junior center Marcelo Correa who opened the season with an eye-opening performance. Correa set new career-highs with 22 points and 15 rebounds. He finished the night 10-of-12 from the floor and picked up seven offensive rebounds. He added two assists, a blocked shot and three steals in 27 minutes of action.
Sophomore center Joe Mann also set a new career high with eight rebounds, and poured in eight points. The center duo of Correa and Mann finished with a combine 30 points and 23 boards.
The win also marked head coach Steve Fisher's 185th of his career. It also marked the eighth straight season-opening win for the former Michigan Wolverine head coach.
The Aztecs return to San Diego to take on cross-town rival San Diego at the USD Sports Center on Saturday (Dec. 4). Tip-off is set a 7 p.m.
