Aztecs Fall To No. 24 San Diego

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's volleyball team fell to 24th-ranked San Diego tonight, 3-1 (8-15, 15-5, 15-5, 15-4), at Peterson Gym in an inner-city duel. The Aztecs losing skid is at five matches, and their overall record falls to 10-17, with two crucial Mountain West Conference matches awaiting them this weekend against New Mexico (Friday) and Air Force (Saturday).

More than 300 were in attendance for the rivalry match between USD (21-5 overall) and SDSU. The Aztecs took game one, 15-8, behind the play of seniors Lisa Bostian and Jamie Evans. Bostian would go on to record nine kills on 17 attacks and commit just two errors to finish the contest with a .412 attack percentage. Evans, a Monte Vista alum, led all Aztecs with 15 kills and seven digs. Defensive specialist Katie Magunson had another fine outing, by notching a team-high 11 digs and nine kills.

After dropping the first game, the Toreros took the next three, and went on their way to sweeping the season series against SDSU. USD was led by senior outside hitter Petia Yanchulova, who recorded a double-double with 17 kills and 11 digs. Adrian Frediani finished with a match-high 19 kills and 15 digs to pace the Toreros to the win.
