SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's soccer team won its first-ever Mountain West Conference game when it shut out Air Force, 2-0 on Friday in Colorado Springs, Colo.
The Aztecs (8-4 overall, 1-0 MWC) jumped on the Falcons (5-7 overall, 0-1 MWC) early, as sophomore forward Kate Qually stole a pass deep in Air Force territory and found freshman midfielder Michele Wagner for a goal at the 2:25 mark.
Following the early strike, SDSU was held in check by the Falcon defense, which prior to Friday's game had only yielded 1.18 goals per game. However, the Aztecs were able to put the game out of reach when senior forward Lori LaCoursiere cashed in on a penalty kick at 73:46.
The win upped State's all-time record against Air Force to 2-0 and improved its all-time mark against teams who are now in the Mountain West Conference to 11-4-1, a figure which is tops among all MWC schools.
The Aztecs will look to pull off a sweep of their conference-opening road trip when they take on Wyoming at 1 p.m. on Sunday in Laramie, Wyo.
