No. 21 Women's Soccer Blanks Kansas, 3-0

Oct. 30, 1999

SAN DIEGO - The 21st-ranked San Diego State women's soccer team extended its winning streak to four games when it shut out Kansas, 3-0 at the Ole Miss Soccer Classic in Oxford Miss. on Saturday.

The Aztecs (13-5 overall, 5-1 Mountain West Conference) got on the board first when senior defender Kelly Grogg scored her second goal of the season, blasting a hard shot past Jayhawk goalkeeper Betsy Pollard from distance in the 26th minute.

SDSU controlled the action in the first half, outshooting Kansas (8-10-1 overall, 3-6-1 Big 12), 6-1 in the opening stanza.

The Aztecs, who have played their best soccer in the second half of games this season, exploded out of the gates after halftime, as junior forward Katie Hamilton headed in an insurance goal just three minutes into the second half.

Senior Megan Mattes put the game out of reach 10 minutes later when she headed a corner kick taken by Grogg into the back of the net. State has outscored the opposition, 26-9 in the second half of games this year.

SDSU outshot the Jayhawks, 17-3 on the game, with 14 of those shots taken on goal. The shutout demonstrated the continued success of the Aztec defense, as SDSU has not allowed an opposing team to score more than one goal in a game since Kentucky scored three times against the Aztecs on Oct. 3. During that span, SDSU is 6-1 and has outscored the opposition, 20-2.

The Aztecs will play their final regular-season game when they battle Ole Miss (12-7 overall,4-5 Southeastern Conference) at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
