Women's Volleyball Defeats UNLV

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's volleyball team opened its 1999 Mountain West Conference season with a 3-2 win against UNLV at Las Vegas. The Aztecs (7-7, MWC 1-0) downed the Rebels in an exciting five game battle (9-15, 15-10, 15-11, 6-15, 15-12) in front of more than 400 at the Lied Gymnasium.

Senior Jamie Evans paced SDSU with her fifth double-double of the season, registering 12 kills, 11 digs and finished with a .257 hitting percentage. Junior Amy Hallquist tallied her fourth double-double of the season with 11 kills and 12 digs. Senior Lisa Bostian added 11 kills and five block assists. Middle blocker Erin Grady recorded a career-high seven block assists. In the match, five Aztecs tallied nine kills or more in the win.

SDSU hits the road for matches against Utah on Friday and 13th-ranked Brigham Young on Saturday. The Aztecs' Mountain West home opener is Friday, Oct. 15 at 7:00 p.m. at Peterson Gym.
