SAN DIEGO - Kentucky got a tie-breaking goal from Kevi Boyce with 13 minutes left in the game and went on to defeat San Diego State 3-2 in a game played Sunday evening at UNLV. The 21st ranked Wildcats upped their season record to 7-2-1 while San Diego State fell to 7-4.
The Wildcats opened the scoring in the 27th minute on a goal by midfielder Deanna Stayton, and doubled their lead when Anne Gage struck in the 31st minute.
The Aztecs struck back just before halftime when freshman Bethany Robinson knocked in Kelly Grogg?s corner kick with only seconds left until intermission. It was Robinson?s first goal as an Aztec.
SDSU knotted the score early in the second half when forward Lori LaCoursiere head in from close range in the 53rd minute. The game was tight the remainder of the way until Boyce?s breakthrough score from 10 yards out.
Senior Katherine Judkins was in goal for the Aztecs and was called upon to make three saves While Kentucky?s Beth Wells also had three.
San Diego State is now set to open Mountain West Conference play as it travels to Air Force for a game this Friday (Oct. 8), then visits Wyoming at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday (Oct. 10).
