Cross Country Finishes Fifth at MWC Championships

The San Diego State women?s cross country team earned fifth-place honors at the MWC Championships in Provo, Utah, on Friday. BYU was crowned conference champions, while Colorado State, Air Force and UNLV were the other teams to finish ahead of the Aztecs.

Junior Sophia Hawker led the way for the Aztecs as she was the 16th runner to cross the finish line. Her time of 18:36 in the five kilometer race was two seconds short of qualifying for all-conference honors. It was Hawker?s third best time of the season as well as the third best time by an Aztec all year.

Freshmen standouts Alicia Stewart, Lanele Cox and Jennifer Stakiw were right behind her with times of 19:01, 19:40 and 20:10, respectively. Junior Maria Moreno had her best finish this season as she was fifth for San Diego State with a time of 20:43.

The Aztecs will run their final race Nov. 13, at the District Eight Championships in Portland, Ore.
