Aztecs Knock Off UNLV In A Five-Game Battle

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State Women's Volleyball team defeated UNLV, 3-2, to extend its home winning streak to three matches. The Aztec lost the first game, but came back to take the next two games and eventually held off the Rebels for a 9-15, 15-9, 15-13, 7-15, 15-10 win at Peterson Gym tonight. SDSU improves its record to 10-12 overall and 3-5 in the Mountain West Conference.

The Aztecs were led by junior outside hitter Amy Hallquist, who registered her sixth double-double of the season with 13 kills and 12 digs. Middle blocker Nicole Akporiaye continued her dominating performance, notching a team-high 18 kills. Setter Melissa Dickson added 51 assists for the night. SDSU is 3-1 this season when playing five-game matches.

Angie Sylvas led UNLV with 21 kills and 11 digs, while Justine Kamelamela added 56 assists. The Rebels are now 9-10 overall and 1-7 in the conference.

The Aztecs continue their homestand on Friday, Nov., 5 and play host to eighth-ranked BYU at Peterson Gym. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
