Aztecs Prepare for First Home Meet of Season
The San Diego State swimming team will host its first meet of the season Friday, Nov. 5 at 1 p.m. at Terry Pool on the San Diego State campus. The Aztecs will face in-state rivals Loyola Marymount and San Diego.
Last year, San Diego State was victorious over Loyola Marymount by a score of 166-130, in Pepperdine, Calif. The Aztecs fell to San Diego, 148-83 in a dual at USD.
Aztecs Earn Third-Place Honors at Colorado State
San Diego State competed at the Colorado State Early Bird Invitational Friday and Saturday in Fort Collins. The Aztecs finished third out of ten teams at the meet.
Casillan Is Tops for Aztecs
Sophomore co-captain Meghan Casillan took home first place honors in the 100 backstroke with a time of 59.22 at this year?s Early Bird Invite. Casillan also finished third in the 200 backstroke.
Newcomers Make Big Impact at Early Bird Invite
Junior transfers Mariana Luevano and Heather DeFelice came up big for the Aztecs in Fort Collins. Luevano led the Aztecs with four top-six finishes at the meet including first place in the 200 butterfly (2:11.20), third place in the 100 backstroke (1:00.61) and fourth place in the 100 butterfly (59.52). DeFelice recorded fourth place finishes in the 200 individual medley (2:12.57) and the 200 breaststroke (2:29.73).
Several freshmen performed well in their first meet for the Scarlet and Black. Erin Kilpatrick was fourth in the 400 in the 200 butterfly, Kara Wright finished fourth in the 200 backstroke (2:13.18) and Lisa Beebe?s time of 18:33.01 in the 1650 freestyle was good enough for sixth place.
