San Diego State's Scott Piercy, a junior from Las Vegas, Nev., won the individual medalist honors, after firing a two-under-par 214 at the first-ever Pepperdine STRATA Intercollegiate at the Saticoy Country Club in Somis, Calif.
Piercy led the Aztecs to a final score of 315-292-294-(901) and a ninth place finish during the two-day, 54-hole tournament. Texas A&M captured the team crown with a 884 team total.
Piercy shot a two-over-par 74 in the first round on Monday, but came back in the second round to fire a four-under-par 68 to place himself in third, heading to the final round. On the final day, Piercy shot an even-par 72 and defeated Sean Gilliland from Texas A&M in a playoff round to earn his first collegiate individual title.
Other Aztecs who finished among the top-50, include Lars Johansson who shot a 80-76-74-(230) en route to a 42nd place finish and Magnus Carlsson scored an 83-73-75-231 to finish tied for 44th. Luis Assemat finished tied for 47th after firing a 232.
SDSU continues its fall season on Oct., 15-16, when it travels to Fresno, Calif., to compete in the Fresno-Lexus Classic at the Belmont Country Club.
