Oct. 9, 1999

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State (4-7) avenged an earlier loss at the hands of U.S. International (4-8) and handed the Globe Runners a 2-0 setback in a game played at USIU on Saturday, October 9.

Junior Milton Economy netted the game?s first goal in the 29th minute off a pass from forward David Beltran. Midfielder Dan Gotvald doubled SDSU?s advantage when he took a ball from Alan Fiedler and converted in the 63rd minute.

The win came despite the fact that the Aztecs were shorthanded for much of the second half. Economy received a red card in the 50th minute to reduce the Aztecs to 10 men. In the 76th minute, SDSU lost another player when defender Kirk Fonseca received a red card, forcing the team to play with nine men for the final 14 minutes.

Goalkeeper Adam Dietz, making his second start of the season, recorded his second shutout while making two saves.

San Diego State opens its Mountain Pacific Sports Federation schedule this Friday, October 15, when it hosts UC Santa Barbara at 3:00 p.m. at the ARCO Olympic Training Center.
