SAN DIEGO - The SDSU men?s soccer team suffered its first loss of the season on Sunday Afternoon when it fell to Oregon State by a score of 2-1 at the ARCO Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista.The loss evened the Aztecs? mark at 101 while OSU improved to 2-0 on the season
The Aztecs took a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute off a set play when senior David Beltran took a free kick tap from Oscar Rodriguez and deposited a shot in the lower right corner from 20 yards.
The Beavers evened the game in the 42nd minute when OSU?s Greg Howes converted a penalty kick. The PK was set up when Howes was tripped in the box.
The Beavers? game-winning goal came from J.P. Capodanno who took a long through ball from Howes and converted into a score at the 56:10 mark.
The game was marred by a total of 60 fouls between the two teams. OSU received a pair of yellow cards while the Aztecs were shown three yellows and a red, the latter to Brett Lasby who was dismissed form the game in the 82nd minute after his second book able offense.
The Aztecs outshot OSU 13-9 on the day. Beaver goalie Bryan Hill recorded seven saves while SDSU?s Brian Barnes had three.
Up next for San Diego State is a non-conference contest with UC Irvine on Wednesday, September at the Olympic Training Center. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
