Six different players scored goals as the San Diego State Aztec men's soccer team opened its 1999 season with a 6-0 win over Concordia at the ARCO Olympic Training center Thursday afternoon. Concordia, an NAIA institution located in Irvine, dropped to 0-2 on the season.
It took the Aztecs some 35 minutes before they opened the scoring on a goal by senior Darren Parker. Teammate Abraham Martinez doubled SDSU's advantage just before halftime to give the Aztecs a 2-0 lead at the break.
Second half goals by Brett Lasby, Ralph Dartt, Scott Schmid and John Zarick in a 15-minute span sealed the win for San Diego State. Matt Williams, a junior transfer from Fresno State, had three assists in his Aztec debut.
Goalkeepers Brain Barnes, Adam Dietz and Matt Laughlin shared the shutout and were not called upon to make a save as SDSU outshot the Eagles 37-5.
The Aztecs return to the ARCO Olympic Training Center this Sunday (September 5) to host Oregon State at 1:00 p.m.
