SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's soccer team dropped only its second game of the season when it was defeated by William & Mary, 4-1 on Sunday in Williamsburg, Va.
The Aztecs (5-2 overall) got on the board early, as sophomore midfielder Fay deLeon knocked home her first goal of the year at the 4:45 mark with an assist from Kaycee McElree. deLeon's quick strike marked the third consecutive game that SDSU scored in the first five minutes of the contest. The Aztecs scored two minutes and 40 seconds into their game against Oklahoma last Friday and 56 seconds into last Sunday's game against Cincinnati.
The Tribe (5-2 overall) recovered from the early goal, as Lara Pawlow evened up the score when she scored off a rebound at the 41:06 mark.
With the score deadlocked at one through one half of play, William & Mary exploded for three goals in the second stanza. Tribe defender Kristen Ryan placed a 20-yard shot in the net with SDSU keeper Katherine Judkins out of position for the game-winner at 60:16. William & Mary forward Avery Willis added an insurance goal at 80:49, finishing off a cross from Missy Wycinsky. Willis rounded out the scoring with a finish off of a rebound at 84:03.
The Aztecs will return to action at 4 p.m. on Friday, September 24th when they travel to Los Angeles to battle Loyola Marymount.
