Women's Soccer Defeat Long Beach State In Overtime

Sept. 1, 1999

SAN DIEGO - The 13th-ranked San Diego State women?s soccer team claimed a 3-2 overtime decision over a stubborn Long Beach State team on Wednesday afternoon at George Allen Field in Long Beach. The winning goal was scored by senior Lori LaCoursiere with just under three minutes left in the second extra period.

After the 49ers opened the scoring in the ninth minute, SDSU knotted the game on a goal by midfielder Elicia Petre in the 30th minute. That lead was short-lived, however, as Long Beach State scored four minutes later to take a 2-1 halftime lead.

The Aztecs forced overtime when Kaycee McElree scored with a header at the 74 minute mark, setting the stage for LaCoursiere?s unassisted game-winner. Long Beach was forced to play the final three minutes of the first overtime and all of the second OT with 10 players after 49er Jennifer Reott, who scored the 49ers first goal and assisted on the second, received her second yellow card of the contest.

The Aztecs outshot the 49ers 16-12 for the game. SDSU Goalkeeper Linnea Qui?ones, who came on in relief of senior Katherine Judkins in the game?s fifth minute, made four saves.

Next up for the Aztecs is a game against George Washington University on Saturday (Sept. 4), the opening game of the Cal Tournament in Berkeley. SDSU will face the host Golden Bears Sunday evening.
