SAN DIEGO - The No. 3 seeded San Diego State womens tennis team (16-9, 4-2 WAC) was eliminated in the semi-final round of the 1999 WAC Tennis Championships by #2 seed New Mexico, 5-1, in Albuquerque, New Mexico today.
The Aztecs only win came at the No. 3 position by senior Dorota Wozniak who defeated New Mexicos Joanne Shortall, 7-6, 6-2. Senior Sarah Donovan pushed the match at the No. 2 spot to a third set, but lost to the Lobos Natalia Alekhova, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Wozniak led all Aztecs with 24 wins this season while Donovan accounted for 23 wins and Cole fell one win short of the 20-win mark with a 19-18 overall record.
Regionals for the 1999 NCAA Womens Tennis Championships will be announced Wednesday, May 5.
