SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's basketball team could not overcome a hot-shooting first half from New Mexico and lost, 75-51 on Thursday in Albuquerque.
The Aztecs (6-14 overall; 3-5 Western Athletic Conference) trailed the Lobos (15-5 overall; 6-2 WAC), 42-18 at the half and could not claw their way back into the game. UNM shot a blistering 67 percent from the field in the first half and held off a second-half SDSU comeback to earn the victory.
The Aztecs shot 58 percent from the field in the second stanza, but they couldn't get back into the game, as the Lobos kept them at arm's length after running out to an early lead.
SDSU was led by freshman guard/forward Kelly Rushford, who scored 15 points on seven-of-nine shooting from the field. The Cedar Rapids, Iowa native also hauled in five rebounds off the bench. She is averaging 13.0 points per game over her last three contests. Sophomore forward Anita Bundage recorded her ninth double-digit scoring game of the year for the Aztecs, adding 15 points.
The Aztecs will look to bounce back when they travel to El Paso, TX to take on UTEP at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
