Women's Golf Wins SDSU Fall Classic

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's golf team won the 1998 SDSU FallClassic at the Carlton Oaks Country Club shooting a three round team totalof 927 (309, 308, 310), seven strokes ahead of second place UTEP, 934 (306,314, 314). UTEP's Sarah Worden and Kristen MacLaren tied for theindividual championship with a 10-over, 226.

This is the first time since 1995, Northern Illinois HuskieClassic, that the Aztecs have won a tournament. The first place finish alsocompleted a fall season in which SDSU placed in the top five in all fivetournaments it competed in.

Top finishers for SDSU were Hiroko Fukushima, who shot a 11-over,227 (75, 76, 76) and Nikki Chigas, who shot a 12-over 228 (79, 76, 73).All five Aztec players finished in the top 20. Other SDSU finishers includeJo Clingan, who shot a 235 (77, 78, 80), Nikki Stangarone with a 240 (78,81, 81), and Heather Rollo, who shot a 242 (78, 82, 82). Individuals JillJanotta tied for 31 place with a 249 (80, 84, 85) and Brooke Marshall shota 264 (85, 89, 90).
