Women's Crew Dominates City Rivalry

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State University women's crew team won the San Diego City Rowing Championships by bringing home the Patty Wyatt Cup on Saturday, April 10 at Mission Bay, CA. This is the first year all three programs have varsity status.

The women's varsity eight placed first over city rivals, The University of San Diego and The University of California at San Diego, with a time of 6;46. UCSD finished second with a time of 7:00. USD came in third recording a finish time of 7:06 and SDSU's JV team had a fourth place finish with a time of 7:14. The Aztecs JV team was on its way to a second place finish when it hit a buoy approximately 200 meters from the finish line.

The women's novice eight lost a nail biter to USD by 1.5 seconds, but showed an improvement on their previous 14 seconds loss March 20 to the Toreros.

The women from Montezuma Mesa have brought home the Patty Wyatt Cup, designated to the winner of the women's eight at the city championships, for the fourth year in a row; no other team has won the cup more than twice in a row.

The team will travel to Sacramento on Saturday, April 17 for the California Collegiate Rowing Championships. The Aztecs will be competing against many of the California colleges, including fourth ranked University of California - Berkeley, and fifth ranked University of Southern California.
