Women's Basketball Edged by UTEP

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's basketball team lost a pivotal conference game to UTEP, 64-58 on Saturday in El Paso, TX.

The Aztecs (6-14 overall; 3-5 WAC) fell despite an excellent night shooting from the field, as the Miners (9-12 overall; 3-6 WAC) made the most of their opportunities from the free throw line to pull out the win.

SDSU shot 50 percent from the field in the contest and 40 percent from three-point range, while the Miners shot 39 percent from the field. However, UTEP converted on 20-of-26 attempts from the charity stripe, while the Aztecs only attempted three free throws all game.The Miners outrebounded SDSU, 36-25, and pulled down 19 offensive rebounds compared to the Aztecs' eight.

SDSU junior guard Kaly Gillette led all scorers with 19 points in only 20 minutes of action. The Paul, ID native was on fire from long range, draining 5-of-6 from three-point land. Gillette also led the Aztecs on the glass, grabbing five rebounds.

SDSU returns to action at 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 11, when it hosts Utah (16-4 overall; 7-1 WAC) at Cox Arena.
