SAN DIEGO - The No. 24 San Diego State men's tennis team won its second game in as many days on Thursday, defeating Yale, 5-2 at the East Courts.
The Aztecs (8-1 overall; 4-1 Western Athletic Conference) clinched the win on a gutsy performance from sophomore Adam Webster, who defeated the Bulldogs' Scott Carlton, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 at two. Webster, who suffered from cramps in both hamstrings, his groin and his left quadriceps persevered to pull out the win. In addition, Webster vomited between points. The Santa Barbara, Calif., native had to be stretched out during breaks in the action, and hobbled around, playing on only one leg at times. Webster had played most of the year at the number four position, but due to his success, he was moved up to the number two spot for the first time in the Aztecs' game against Oklahoma on Wednesday. His win over Carlton upped his season record to 7-3 and his dual match record to 7-2.
SDSU's other singles wins were a 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory from Nguey Lay at three over Steve Berke, a 6-3, 6-1 win by Sean Walker over David Beynet at five and a 1-6, 6-0, 6-4 win from Travis Hasson at six.
The Aztecs took all three doubles matches, as Alex Waske teamed with Webster to defeat Jonathan Beardsley, 8-5 at one, while Lay and Kolo Rosenthal beat Berke and Greg Royce, 8-5 at two. Walker and Hasson rounded out the doubles action with a 8-2 win at three.
SDSU will next host No. 37 Kansas at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 23 at the East Courts.
