San Diego -
The San Diego State women's crew team made a significant strides this past Sunday into becoming one of the top collegiate rowing programs in the country. In just its first year as a varsity sport, the Aztecs won the Cal Cup at the 26th Annual San Diego Crew Classic on Mission Bay. What makes this even more impressive is the fact that the Aztecs did it after battling through the largest field of competitors ever in the classics' history.
SDSU won the championship race in 7 minutes, 21.69 seconds and never trailed entire the other boats. The Aztecs defeated UC Davis, who finished with a time of 7:25.68, followed by Stanford and Temple.
San Diego State's next competition will take place at the San Diego City Championships on Lower Otay Lakes on Saturday, April 10. The Aztecs will face the University of San Diego and University of California at San Diego in the race.
