SAN DIEGO -
NO. 25 MARQUETTE DEFEATS N0. 30 SDSU, 5-1
The San Diego State University women's tennis team(16-10 overall) was defeated by Marquette University(19-5 overall), 5-1 in the first round of the NCAA Division I Championships. This year's first and second round was held at the University of California-Berkeley.
The two teams met earlier this season with Marquette winning, 6-3, at the SDSU East Courts. The Aztecs couldn't pull it off today losing all singles matches except at the No. 6 spot where freshman Katey Becker defeated Megan Berman 6-3, 6-1. Head coach Peter Mattera said, " They're strength is that they hit a lot of balls back and make you work for everything. We just did not capitalize on our opportunities when we had them. Marquette also played the big points well and that was the difference."
