SAN DIEGO -
The No. 27 San Diego State women's tennis team (12-6 overall, 4-1 WAC) were defeated by the No. 4 California Golden Bears, 6-3, Saturday at the SDSU East Courts.
The Bears took two out of three matches before the officials called an hour and a half rain delay. SDSU's freshman Julie Chidley defeated Karoline Borgersen, 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 6 spot. Cal's Amanda Augustus won 6-1, 6-3 over senior Maggie Cole at No. 1 while Francesca La'o handed Whitney Wells a 6-0, 6-3 loss at No. 4.
After the delay, SDSU's senior Sarah Donovan battled and claimed a victory at No. 2 over Anita Kurimay 6-2, 2-6, 7-6(5).
The Aztecs needed to sweep the doubles to claim a come from behind victory, but Cal's Borgersen and Jenny Lee won 8-4 at No. 3 over Laura Aguero and Dorota Wozniak to seal the Cal win. Seniors Cole and Donovan did notch a win at No. 1 to upset the No. 3 nationally ranked doubles duo of Amy Jensen and Augustus, 8-6.
