SAN DIEGO -
The No. 29 ranked San Diego State women's tennis team (12-7 overall, 4-1 WAC) was upset by No. 36 Marquette University, 6-3, today at the SDSU East Courts.
Marquette (10-5 overall, 2-1 C-USA) took four of the six singles matches with three wins coming in straight set wins over the Aztecs. SDSU's Sarah Donovan defeated Ana Fernandez at the No. 2 position, 7-6 (1), 6-4 while freshman Julie Chidley picked up the only other Aztec singles win at No. 6 over Megan Berman 6-1, 6-2.
Marquette's No. 12 ranked doubles duo of Ana Fernandez and Elisa Penalvo defeated San Diego State's Maggie Cole and Sarah Donovan, who are ranked No. 34 in the nation, 8-5. The only Aztec win in doubles came at No. 3 with Laura Aguero and Dorota Wozniak winning 9-8(2) over Marquette's Christine Dimasi and Julia Sapozhnikova.
The Aztecs are off for Spring Break, but return to action Thursday, April 8 at 2 p.m. when they host UC Santa Barbara at the SDSU East Courts.
