February 3, 1999

SAN DIEGO - The 28th-ranked San Diego State men's tennis team remained perfect in Western Athletic Conference dual match play, defeating 56th-ranked New Mexico, 4-3 on Saturday at SDSU's East Courts.

The Aztecs (2-0 overall; 2-0 WAC) faced their second nationally-ranked conference opponent to open the season, and once again won in dramatic fashion. In SDSU's first match, it defeated 44th-ranked Brigham Young, 4-3. Saturday's match featured four match-ups which went three sets before being decided.

The Aztecs won the doubles point, then got wins from junior Alex Waske at one, senior Kolo Rosenthal at two, and freshman Travis Hasson at six to seal the win.

SDSU will next participate at the USD Tournament from February 5-7. The Aztecs will be without the services of Waske, who will participate at the ITA Rolex National Indoor Championships in Austin, TX. Waske qualified for the Nationals by winning the Regional singles championship in the fall.
