No. 28 Men's Tennis Defeats No. 44 BYU, 4-3

SAN DIEGO - The No. 28 San Diego State men's tennis team (1-0 overall, 1-0 WAC) defeated No. 44 Brigham Young (0-2 overall, 0-1 WAC), 4-3, today at the SDSU East Courts. After losing the doubles point by dropping the No. 1 and No. 3 spots, the Aztecs rallied back and won four of the six singles matches to notch their first win of the season.

BYU's Manuel Calvo and Damien Ward beat SDSU's junior Alex Waske and sophomore Adam Webster at the No. 1 doubles, 8-3 while Nio Losee and Jeff Harbach defeated junior Sean Walker and freshman Travis Hasson at the No. 3, 8-4, to capture the doubles point.

In singles action, Waske defeated Gert Vilms at No. 1, 6-2, 6-4 and Lay won his first match of the season at No. 2 over Losee, 6-1, 6-4. In their first matches for SDSU, Walker defeated David White, 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 6 spot and Webster beat Harbach, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4.

The Aztecs return to action on Saturday, January 30 at noon against New Mexico at the SDSU East Courts.
