SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State men's volleyball team was defeatedby the second-ranked Long Beach State 49ers on Friday, 3-0 (14-16,12-15, 9-15). The loss sets the Aztecs' final overall record at 3-17 (3-16in the MPSF). With the victory, the 49ers improved their overall record to19-2 (16-2 in the MPSF).
The 49ers were led by sophomores Matt Prosser (MB) and DavidMcKienzie (OH). Prosser recorded 17 kills on 24 attempts (.542), fivedigs and six block assists. McKienzie finished the night with a match-high24 kills, four digs and four total blocks. As a team, Long Beach State hit.336 for the match and registered 73 kills.
Although the Red and Black lost on Senior Night, SDSU's two seniorsended their Aztec careers strong. The Aztecs have been led all season byseniors Brian Corso (OH) and Tom Hunter (MB). In Friday's match,Corso had 13 kills, five digs and seven total blocks. Hunter finished with12 kills, a match-high eight digs and seven total blocks. At the end of the1999 season, Corso ranks first on the team in service aces (16), andsecond in kills (225), digs (107) and total blocks (75). Hunter ended hiscareer on Montezuma Mesa ranking first on team in kills (360), digs (109),hitting percentage (.308) and total blocks (104).
